TESTIMONY
During a physical back in November 2007, my doctor asked what I wanted him to say at my funeral. He wasn't smiling. I weighed over 270 pounds on my way to 300. My lab results were off the chart. I was placed on three or four different medicines. I was a disaster ready to happen.
As I walked out to my car, I knew I had no one to blame but myself for allowing myself to get into that condition. Morbidly obesed, nearly a hundred pounds over my expected weight.
As I drove home, I knew some major changes had to be made. When I got home, I threw out all the junk food I had. I made a goal on a large black board for the coming months: 197 pounds by July 4th, 2008. The 197 pounds is the weight to qualify for the Marines. My two Marine sons were coming home on the Fourth. This former Air Force guy was going for the gold.
The weight began slowly coming off. After several months working out at home, I joined a local fitness center down the street. I started going over every day. Light weight training every other day with cardio on the off days.
To make a long story short, I surpassed my goal of 197 pounds by July 4th. In fact, I lost 80 pounds to reach 194 pounds. My waist went from 44 inches to 34 inches. My sons couldn't believe it.
When I went back to my doctor, he couldn't believe it. The lab results also were also impressive. Every key measurement was well within the acceptable limits. He said "you've graduated," as he took me off the medicine.
It has now been a year and a half since that July 4th. The weight has stabilized at about 204 due to the intensity weight training. The resting pulse rate hovers around 50 with the blood pressure under 120/75.
It can be done. But there are no short cuts. No fancy plans. It's a day to day project of eating right and exercising.
The benefits? More energy. Better sleeping. And an over-all feeling great life experience.
It can be done! You're never to old to start feeling better!
